I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for coming to play math games with your kids yesterday. I so enjoyed connecting with you and sharing first hand how our Lower School mathematicians not only develop number sense, but also have a joyful and fun learning experience while doing so.
If you walk into any Lower School math lesson, you’ll find students demonstrating flexible thinking, efficient problem-solving, and number sense. Our math curriculum is guided by Investigations in Number, Data and Space and it honors the developmental progression children go through as they move from concrete to abstract thinking. In teaching this way, mathematics becomes social and students grow more confident as they become proficient in applying number sense strategies to mentally solve math equations.
If you weren’t able to join us, or if you’d like to learn more about the accompanying parent presentation, please reach out to me or any member of the math department leaders: Amy Walker, Elise Koretz, and Brian Carver.
I hope you and your children have a wonderful weekend!
Kindly,
Gina
