Changemaking Lab Note - March 3

Greetings Changemakers!

I wanted to give you a little update on what's been going on in our fifth grade Scratch video game design class. Our budding game designers are getting their feet wet learning about sprites, backgrounds, and motion blocks, figuring out all the different ways they can get their game to function as intended. Programming is fun and can also be frustrating, which makes this project a great opportunity for them to develop a greater sense of resilience and find support and encouragement from one another.

Meanwhile, over in sixth and seventh grades, we're continuing to work on our sustainability projects, keeping an eye on how we might help Brookwood be an even greener community. As usual, student projects are super creative and highly varied. Some are building an RC boat to fetch trash and gym balls from the pond (who knew that would be a thing?), others working with first grade to make a nature's garden bed, a few are creating interactive art projects that will celebrate and ideate, and one group is developing a video game to help Lower School students learn more about recycling.

I can't wait to share more with you soon, and maybe even convince you to come play some games with us :)

Cheers,

David
