New Employees:
Database Manager: Gia Meicher
Gia Meicher joined the Brookwood community on Monday, April 3 as our new Database Manager. She has been working with Doug Fodeman to ensure we have a seamless transition when Doug retires. Gia comes to us from Landmark School where she's been for the last 15 years in several different roles, most recently as the Information Systems Manager. Prior to that, Gia was at Berklee College of Music for a number of years after she graduated from Berklee with a BA in Music.
Director of Development: Matt Drake
Matt brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in the independent school world. After graduating with a BA in Sociology from the University of Virginia, Matt spent the next several years teaching and coaching at the Fessenden School in Newton, MA, and later at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, CT. He then went on to work in school development for 10 years, serving as the director of annual giving at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA, and as a major gifts officer at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. Matt also gained valuable experience as part of a global team of educators helping to launch a brand new independent school with campuses in D.C. and Shenzhen, China. Currently, Matt is serving as a Major Gifts Officer at the Governor’s Academy in Byfield, MA. We are excited to welcome Matt to our community starting this June and believe that his extensive experience and expertise will help us achieve our strategic goals.
Lower School Technology and Changemaking Teacher: Carissa McKinney
Carissa is so excited to join the Brookwood community this coming school year. She grew up in Framingham and, for college, she went to the University of Delaware in Newark, DE where she studied Biological Science. Carissa went on to earn a graduate degree from Miami University (OH), studying education and environmental conservation through Project Dragonfly's Global Field Program. After a year of working in informal education at the New England Aquarium and the Museum of Science in Boston, Carissa began teaching middle school science and has been doing so for the past 8 years. In her spare time, she can usually be found hanging out with her family, including her 4 puppies and fiancé (husband in June) or traveling to the Cape, the White Mountains or around the world for scuba diving, hiking and eating.
Upper School Science Teacher (One Year): Edith Fouser
Edith is delighted to join the Brookwood community in the fall for the new school year. Science and the outdoors are her passion, so she looks forward to teaching physical and life sciences in the Upper School. Edith grew up in Ipswich, Mass., and studied Art, French and Geology at Colorado College. Once hooked in the world of field science, she completed a Master’s in Geology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Edith taught at a sixth-grade outdoor science school in the mountains of southern California for a couple of years and led wilderness expeditions for young people as an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School. Most recently, she taught science, math and writing at Waring School in Beverly for fourteen years. Edith left Waring in June 2022 to spend thirteen months traveling around the world with her partner and two children.
Upper School English Teacher: Meg Lloyd
Meg Lloyd is thrilled to be joining the Brookwood community! She has always been a teacher and coach. Meg has taught grades K to 9 and coached 5th through 12th grade. Her favorite element of teaching, coaching, and advising is that she gets to meet and build relationships with students, athletes, and advisees. These connections bring her daily joy and challenge her to continue learning and growing every day. Meg cannot wait to teach English, as it is her absolute favorite subject.
In Meg’s free time, you are likely to find her running around in the woods, often with her dogs: Betsy and Stella. If not in the woods, Meg is probably with friends/family enjoying preparing a meal together. If it is rainy, Meg has likely found a place to curl up and enjoy a book! We are excited to have her join the team next year!
