Students, parents, faculty and even visitors remark on Brookwood’s beautiful campus –the pond, the trails, the plant material and more. But often in life, we take for granted that which we see regularly as we move about our day from point to point. If we consciously engage in our senses, as Upper School students experienced one day this fall, looking at familiar spaces with a new lens, we can experience a greater appreciation of our surroundings. Students engaged in mindfulness practices with a focus on sounds and smells, as well as a walking practice. “Wow! There are so many sounds in the woods when you are quiet and just listen.”
